Welcome to my first personal website. Ever.

I've been around the web for quite a while. I tinkered with HTML as a kid (I'm about :marquee-code old), built could-be "websites" that naturally never made it onto the internet, and later – in my teenage years – co-ran a commercial gaming forum and news blog. Still, I never put my name on a site like this.

Why this exists

I'm self-employed now, which means I needed a representative website anyway – so I made it a small public notebook: brainwaves, notes, and the occasional rant, tossed into web 2.0's renaissance – fueled by the recent actions of spineless tech autocrats. Thanks, bros.

What you'll find here

Mostly: things at the intersection of code, design, art, culture, and society – plus the messy realities of building products: shipping, rewrites, dead ends, small wins, and the posts future me will regret. You'll get both the successes and the failures, with some random side quests every now and then.

This will also document my attempt to build a business that pays the bills. I'm not your typical build in public bro chasing the Lambo – I just want enough steady income to finance a modest Viennese lifestyle: 62m² in the allegedly worst part of town, no car, no luxury. Just enough runway to keep building on my own terms.

If that somehow sounds intriguing, feel free to subscribe via RSS or follow me on social media.

Coming up

A few posts are already in the pipeline:

The kinda-genesis of Valve's Steam Machine – a story I've been carrying around since 2012. It really starts in 2007, so we're approaching 20 years. F me, I'm old.

A deep dive into the inner workings of the only new iOS 26 feature that's not utter shit: Apple's Spatial Photos.

A short write-up on this site's earlier iterations – the unhinged version that didn't make the cut, but is still charming enough that I might refurb it into something else.

Thanks for stopping by – happy you somehow stumbled upon this place,

Marc
